Hi, We’re in China! 萬里長城
We arrived in Shanghai last night around 9pm. A nice guy met us at the airport and escorted us to our hotel. The Ritz! Our rooms look like Miami art deco shat on the Boom Boom Room. We dig! Since it was still early we decided to make the most of our night and explore Shanghai nightlife. Wowzers. Our first stop, the hotel bar, I know, I know we said we were going to venture out, but we were lured in by the saxophonist and cute little girl singing Smooth Operator. Smoooooth Operatoor. I got some fish soup that smelled like a subway stop somewhere between Grand and Canal Street and Caitlin had some watery lettuce. The Ritz! They were closing early to wash the windows, so onward we went. We hoped in a cab and asked him to take us to the closest bar that was open. Wowzers. Our first stop was short lived, it was a little beer garden with a cover band singing YMCA and a bunch of white people dancing. Next stop, a bar down the street with another cover band that included two cute asian-esque girls singing Michael Jackson off key, we stayed long enough to be creeped out by the old white business men hitting on all the asian-esque girls and then moved on to our third and final cover band of the evening. This bar looked like something out of Lost in Translation, they love art deco-esque meets 70s mirrored walls, tables and floors around here. Wowzers! This band, spearheaded by a pretty, crinkly haired blonde girl, was wrapping up when we got there, so one whiskey and a few recommendations from the drummer of the band and we were outta there. Drummer boy told us about a spot called “Windows” where beer was two dollars and they played hip hop music. Taxi!
Windows was pretty fun, it basically felt like a sports bar in mid-town with a lot of Rhinanna remixes on repeat. Hip-hop-esque. We met a few nice people, and fell in love with the two cutest Korean girls ever, we nick-named them Mia & Caitlin. They were drinking vodka with Green Tea. Chic! We didn’t come here just to go clubbin, so after a few drinks, we said our goodbyes and headed back to the Ritz. We have the day off, so we booked a day excursion to a nearby town called Zhouzhuang, boat ride and stewed picnic pork included. Wish us luck!
